“Change is the only Constant” Helping to make your organisation more productive, dynamic and an enjoyable place to work All of us are aware of the rapid changes which have taken place in the UK in the last fifteen years. In fact many of the UK’s work practices are being heralded as a model for other members of the EEC to emulate. But this change has brought with it many dilemmas for the individual and the organisation. As both the private and public sectors struggle to deal with the demands of change, organisations have witnessed increased levels of sickness, lack of productivity and poor staff motivation. For those who work within the organisation, increased emotional disturbance and behaviour, and a failure to reach their potential, has often resulted. S and B Consultants have developed programmes to deal with conflicts which are invariably encountered in both organizational and personal change. We believe that in order to maintain and enhance the changes, imagination and commitment to individual development in the workplace is more than ever an essential part of all organisations’ priorities. Even if the dynamics of change are not perceived to be problematical S and B Consultants can structure their intervention to enhance the ideas and culture of any organisation. “Self development equals promotion – lots of
us benefit from thinking about what patterns underlie our behaviour”
Whilst most organisations do recognize their responsibility to train and equip their staff to deal with the rigours of their work, we recognize at S and B consultants that organisations are only a collection of individuals and each individual has a responsibility for their own actions and development. Indeed, it is this philosophy which proves so successful in our work. “Since Walker vs. Northumberland County Council,1994, the courts have continued to demonstrate that employers duty to the health and safety of their employees, includes psychological well being.” Between them David Baker and Meir Stolear bring together over fifty years of experience in dealing with conflict in clinical settings and organizational encounters. For example David was a member of a UK police service during periods of unprecedented, change and development, where his skills of negotiation were utilized in both an operational and administrative capacity. These practical skills were enhanced by post graduate work in management studies. Meir has been actively involved with changes which have affected the Social Services. Both David and Meir are highly skilled and practice a particular form of facilitation and intervention known as Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. REBT has been called “A Tough Minded Therapy in a Tender Profession”. It is a theory of personality based on a coherent set of psychological constructs developed over half a century by the American Albert Ellis. It is dynamic, focussed and efficient. In the hands of the skilled professional, REBT offers a powerful intervention for helping individuals deal with their patterns of thinking, emotions, and dysfunctional behaviour, which frequently deflect or prevent the goals of the individual, and the organisation in which he or she works. “At least 20 authoritative studies have demonstrated
the effectiveness of cognitive behavior therapy over all other forms of
analysis and psychotherapy."
By focusing directly on the individual’s inability to deal with the conflict in change S and B consultants’ programmes offer any organisation an effective, professional intervention, which will help deal with the negative effects of conflict. Whether your organisation is part of the public or private sector, however large or small, S and B Consultants can make a real impact in helping you to identify, and deal with the deleterious effects of conflict in your employees. We will assist you in making your organisation a more productive, dynamic and enjoyable place to work, by helping the individuals within, to manage their thinking, emotions, and behaviour in a more rational way. Meir and David are willing and able to tackle head on irrational thinking in conflicts, which lead people to become emotionally disturbed and behave in dysfunctional ways, often to the detriment of themselves and those around them. You will discover that our approach ‘side-steps’ no issue and however difficult clients consider their problems or behaviour to be, the issues will be dealt with in a manner which is empathetic yet focused and firm. S and B Consultants offer services which include • Initial negotiations to identify problem areas at all organisational levels. • Structure programmes of intervention to deal
